Alright, I can’t take it anymore. Long political rant time. Let’s talk about the Metro Measure 26-218 #orpol (1/x)
This measure would fund Metro area safety, transportation, and transit projects. It’s a payroll tax of up to 0.75%. #orpol
Here’s what this measure is not: a wage tax, a tax on individuals or families, any of the other shit special interests are claiming #orpol (3/x)
Here’s an example of some of the stupidest, most dog-whistle-y, garbage campaign mail I have ever seen #orpol (4/x):
So who created that mailer? A group calling themselves, wait for it, “STOP THE METRO WAGE TAX.” Literally right out of the same old corporate playbook: http://www.abetteroregon.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/corporate_playbook_memo_2017.pdf #orpol (5/x)
You can’t make this shit up, it is do distasteful (and honestly, just crappy political mail) #orpol (6/x):
So who’s behind this campaign? It’s a “who’s who” of business interests: Nike ($250k), Daimler ($100k), Intel ($100k), Lithia ($75k), Comcast ($75k), Oregon Business and Industry ($80k), The Standard ($150k)... and more #orpol (7/x)
For those keeping track at home, that’s $830k just from their top donors. They’ve raised a total of $1.3 million since 9/4. They’ve spent about $1.1 of that on mail, TV, and...... CONSULTANTS! #orpol (8/x)
They are paying at least eleven - ELEVEN - different consultants and lobbying firms to try to defeat the measure. Do you think they’re doing it because they ACTUALLY CARE about workers? About families? Absolutely not. #orpol (9/x)
The amount of money Nike has donated alone is almost 2x what they would pay under this measure for the CEO alone. This isn’t about you. They can afford this, because it’s NEGLIGIBLE. It’s about corporate profit and a conservative anti-tax, anti-public sector agenda #orpol
All of this under the guise of caring about workers and families. You know how much aide for these families they supposedly care about they could have bought with $1.3 million?! Or, how much we’d gain if they just paid their fair share of taxes? #orpol
So please, don’t be fooled by this gross attempt to protect corporate interests hiding behind some fake campaign. It’s the same old shit, it represents the worst of politics, and we should reject it. #orpol
Ok, rant over. For now. (13/13)
