Irony and hypocrisy are the norm with fascism. Another one in this case of Trumpism is that the xenophobic, anti immigrant aspect its platform, are being dictated by a party and its autocratic leader who are compromised and aligned with a foreign enemy.

The base who support this party don't consider Russia foreign though, because it's a white country and they like Putin's system there. One big difference there is that guns are tightly regulated.

This is why Russian intelligence got involved with the NRA and GOP operatives. There was a campaign to make Russia look gun friendly with the kind of rhetoric the NRA uses and the GOP base follows. It seems to have worked because they still view Russia favorably.
