The creative industries are viable. They’re also one of our most vital. Here are a few reasons why 🔽
The creative sector, prior to the pandemic, was growing at five times the rate of the wider economy and contributing over £111 billion in GVA. That’s greater than the automotive, aerospace, life science and oil and gas industries combined.
The creative sector creates jobs; there are already more than 2m of them. Pre-pandemic creative jobs were growing at 3x the UK average. These jobs are not only viable, they’re future proof: 87% of highly creative roles in the UK are at low to no risk of being replaced by machines
Imagination is everything! Creativity is the most sought after soft skill that companies look for when hiring. Creative skills will be a vital asset to tackling major problems in the world like climate change, and how to rebuild life post-pandemic.
The creative sector drives the economy, everywhere, not just in London. In Scotland, the creative sector more than doubled in value from 2010 to 2018, whilst creative jobs in the North East grew by 30% in that same period. To level up the UK, we need to invest in creativity.
Creative industries make us feel better! They bring communities together and are integral to the nation’s mental health. Imagine lockdown with no TV shows, no music, no favourite podcast, no books...
