I'm cranky this morning, so let's do some more diving into the NDP claim the average family will save $3,400 a year with their promises.

(Which only means for one year, as it includes the $1,000 rebate).

It only includes families, with children, who rent.

How many are there? https://twitter.com/j_mcelroy/status/1317140346086645760
According to the Canadian Rental Housing Index, that's just 75,540 households — about 4% of households in British Columbia.

It seems low, but only 31% of households are renters (it's quite low outside Metro Van), and only around a third of renters have kids in the house.
So, now we're down to 4% of households in B.C. affected by this NDP promise of the "average family".

But!

You have to be eligible for the renters rebate, meaning your household makes under $80,000.

For a renting couple with kids in BC, the average income is $85K, median $72K
Let's be nice and estimate that 60% of renter couples in B.C. with kids are below the $80K cutoff.

We're now looking at 45,324 families in B.C. who fit the NDP's "average family" criteria.

Or 2.4% of households.

Assuming they all own cars and see their rent go up each year.
Could you do this with A WHOLE BUNCH of promises by political parties on how much "your family" will save if you elect them to office?

Absolutely. The NDP are no less immune to this than other parties.

But they put out the press release this morning, and I woke up grumbly.
