Why The New Danger is a Classic Album (A Thread)
The New Danger is Mos Def’s experimental follow up to Mos’s classic debut album Black On Both Sides. As I stated before it is very experimental in sound compared to BOBS having Punk Rock, Funk, Jazz and R&B elements to it along with having Soul, Flute and Guitar Samples thrown in
When hearing the album especially with songs such as Sex Love and Money and Zimballabim you can hear the influence it have on albums such as To Pimp A Butterfly and Yeezus
At the time of its release in 2004, it was met with mixed reception due to its experimental nature and Mos singing more than rapping for most of the project
Although not as masterfully created as his debut, The New Danger is highly influential to rap because of Mos’s creativity throughout the project and refusal to hear the norms of the game at the time. For that it has aged way better than most albums of its era.
