We talk about the horrible fake League of Legends twitter account on here about 30 minutes in. There's a lot to say. https://twitter.com/timebatshow/status/1316886567701667840
Some interesting takeaways:
- Ignoring real people's struggles and being nice to fictional entities is easier
- Are people that are interacting with her roleplaying? If so, are the roleplaying when they post about real world issues as well?
- When does their universe end and mine begin?
- Twitter has no magic circle for separating reality from fiction
- The only logical conclusion is everything on twitter must be assumed to be fictional, and yet we use it for news, opinions, and political movements 🙃
"It's like going into a library and instead of having a fiction and non-fiction section all the books are just everywhere."
I honestly don't understand why this aspect of it has not been discussed. I think my logic is very sound and I'd be interested in further discussion. Or no one cares.
I understand there's a lot of other terrible things going on in the world, but we shouldn't become complacent and let corporations do this while our guard is down. They are writing the future of our society right now, and it is not a future you will like.
The conclusion of this episode is me trying to decide if I should post something mean to this "thing's" twitter account, but I feel bad about it. Why? Because the brands have literally already won. It's disgusting. Even I have fallen for it.
Reality has already blurred into fiction. This account is verified, after all.
Seriously, the ramifications of this are wild. I don't know how to communicate the implications of this more than I can right now.
I should've prefaced it with this, in case you are interested in delving into the rabbit hole of this insane twitter account:
