Other TAs have asked me how to handle profs who refuse to give accommodations. Obviously report them to your dept head and disability services. But by denying accommodations the prof has done something far more terrible then just refuse a student their due right. 1/3
That prof has lost the merit and faith of their student. That student will always question if their grades are fair, if they should drop the class, if they're going to get in trouble for bringing it up. That student is going to wonder if the should have just said nothing. 2/3
We wont see disability rights defended until we overcome this major hurdle. We continue to put the impetus on the individual student, and even when reports are made there are no true repercussions for the prof. Nothing demands true change. 3/3 #AcademicChatter #DisabilityTwitter
