Mastery With Learning Loops

//THREAD//

You think this is a game?

A concept to think about when learning and mastering any skill are practice loops.

This is a loop of activities you repeat over and over to learn something.

In Twitter it's every tweet you create.

In math it's every problem you solve.

In languages it's every conversation, flashcards, and grammar exercise.

All these are loops.

Master by designing your practice loops

*First figure out what loops you need.

Make this an activity that you will repeat over and over again to learn.

*Next break the loop into pieces and see what improvements can be made.

This will help you learn even faster.

Questions you can ask to help analyze your loop

*Does this loop match the sub/skill enough? How can I improve?

For example:

You're studying the vocabulary of a word to help improve the word in a conversation.

However, this only helps you become familiar with the word.

*Are you able to get better and more accurate feedback after each modification to your loop?

For example:
You can videotape yourself saying the word you're trying to improve and find out where you are making the mistakes.

*Do you understand the process?

If you're repeating a technique that doesn't work it won't make you a master.

At this point seek a different method to get better results.

A lot of loops won't be straightforward repetitions

Like if you're trying to get better at writing essays.

Writing the same essay over and over isn't helping you learn writing particular essays, but just the overall process.

Remember that the best way to learn is not to just sit down and read.

Write down what your current practice loop is for something you're learning right now.

Give one idea of how you can improve the loop.
