decoding Intro:Persona-a thread
Intro:Persona is the first track of the album, like an introduction. The album as a whole gives us an insight on their minds, their thoughts etc. In short it gives us a map of their soul(the title of the album is *chefs kiss*)
Intro Persona is divided into 2 parts, the first part where Namjoon questions on who he is, his flaws etc. and the second part talks about how to comes to terms with it and learns from his persona. Persona means “the person who I am”.
Joon asks “who am I” throughout the track as he is searching for his identity. He realizes he will never find answer to this question but yet, he isn’t giving up. He wants to figure out who he is by himself rather than being assumed by others
The term “dog or a pig”, refers to the various taglines forced on a person by the society. He uses it here to show how society tends to label someone in a certain way, when the person itself is in the process of figuring out himself
“Pearl necklace on me” also refers to the different titles given to a person by the society. Sometimes the same necklace can act as a leash to control the person.”ptui” is a onomatopoeia for disdain and insults thrown on a person by the others
Here he talks about how he is trying to be happy, through music and inspiring others. Yet he is often advised by others to keep running, to stop, to look into the bigger picture rather than looking at the details and vice versa. He finds himself stuck in between this crisis
He then talks about how he faces his darkness(“My shadow, I wrote and called it hesitation”). It points out his flaws and reminds him to stay grounded. He questions whether he really deserves music. He regrets the mistakes he made in the past, and it often haunts him.
Now he is coming in terms with who he really is. He understands that he has made mistakes, but those mistakes made him realize who exactly he is. He calls his Persona the map of his soul, where he can look back to introspect. He realizes his past is what made him who he is now.
This is where he is giving a message to his present self, advising to never lose hope and it’s not necessary to be in a certain way for others(“never lose your temperature, you don’t need to be warm or cold”)
He ends the track by saying “whoever I was whoever I am and whoever I will be, is part of my Persona”
Another interesting point is the reference to Jung psychology throughout the MV.,and infact the whole album gives reference to Jung psychology, and his whole concept of “Persona” which is super cool
