A very special album made the scene 19 years ago today. Will be sharing special videos to celebrate one of my favorite projects by #Prince all day today #TheRainbowChildren

If you have followed my account for a while you might remember my campaign to have The Rainbow Children danced by Alivin Ailey Dance Company or the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

I'm going to put this out into the universe until we get some version of this wonderful album on their stages!

Namesake of my podcast, something I got to see P perform at Piano and a Mic Atlanta...a song I have always had an interesting relationship with.... Muse 2 the Pharaoh. Mashed up here with Cry danced by Deborah Manning of Alvin Ailey Dance Company

Another connection was found to this song about a month ago. I bought this painting with my first adult paycheck back in 2007. I found it arresting and couldn't leave the store without it. A friend asked if it was a real fresco or art someone made up. I'd never looked into it.

There is a lyric in Muse 2 the Pharaoh "the opposite of NATO is OTAN". For me and fellow Rainbow Children enthusiast @Miss_EThompson we feel this is a reference to Akhenaten, especially given how you pronounce his name... And because P sometimes subbed his name with monotheism.

(Akhenaten was known to popularize the concept of monotheism to his people during his time)

So back to the painting, I finally looked up its origins a month ago and found out it's from the Tomb of Djeserkareseneb. He was a recorder of Grain of Amun and steward of the second prophet of Amun. This is located in modern day Thebes, Tombs of the Nobles at Luxor.

And who is Amun?

"the opposite of NATO is OTAN" > OTAN likely a reference to Akhanaten > Akhanaten popularized the monotheistic worship of Aten > whose predecessor Amun is memorialized on a painting I had a kinship with without knowing the connections...

Lol besides that, this album is DEEPLY rich with all sorts of references and you can literally spend a whole year digging out treasures. The Professor is a PRO.FESS.OR OKAY?? Afshin Shahidi
