‼️WHAT’S HAPPENING IN PHILIPPINES; A VERY DETAILED AND IMPORTANT THREAD
don’t be ignorant and inform yourselves and others‼️
first of all it’s okay to not know what’s going on but i am glad that you decided to read this and educate yourself :)
let’s go👇🏼
NOVEMBER 5 2019
3 leaders of an activist group (Carlo Bautista, Alma Estrada Moran & Reina Mae Asis Nasino) were arrested in a police operation in Tondo, Manila.
They were arrested for alleged possession of guns and explosives. Human Rights groups and councils of the 3 insist the evidence were planted and the raid and arrests were part of a crackdown on activists.
Reina Mae Asis Nasino was pregnant at this time and spent her entire pregnancy in jail. She was only allowed one medical check-up, even though she was pregnant!!!
Asis and political prisoners’ kin group Kapatid had been asking for the release of Nasino since she entered the latter half of her pregnancy.
JULY 1 2020

Nasino gave birth to her baby girl “River” who had a very low birth weight and yellow skin. Lawyers said this happened due to a lack of prenatal care. Nasino had a lot of difficulties breastfeeding the little girl and she did not get any assistance.
Nasino’s counsels filed a motion for her to be transferred to a hospital with her baby until she reaches a year old or to a jail nursery so she can breastfeed but this was denied by the court. The lawyers then filed a motion for reconsideration but this was again denied.

The little baby girl, who was only 3 months old, died due to achte respiratory distress syndrome.
May this little angel fly very high🕊
Reina Mae was supposed to have 3 days to bid goodbye to her baby but the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 47 Judge Paulino Gallegos revised his furlough grant to Reina Mae and cut it to 6 hours.
She was only able to say goodbye to her daughter 3 hours on Wednesday, October 14 and 3 hours on the burial on Friday, October 16.
OCTOBER 14 2020
Before Reina Mae could’ve even reached the funeral home in Pandacan, cops of the Manila Police Distinct (MPD) already guarded the area. By the time she arrived there were more than dozen agents there.
OCTOBER 14 2020
Reina Mae was dressed in full PPE and in handcuffs while she walked towards her baby’s coffin which was swarmed by cameras and her escorts.
Kapatid’s Fides Lim tried to ask the jail guards to remove Reina Mae’s cuffs, telling them the activist could barely rise from her seat because she was handcuffed. The police then only removed one side of the handcuffs.
OCTOBER 16 2020
This was the day of baby River’s burial.
Not only the funeral parlour but also the cemetery where baby River was supposed to rest we’re both swamped by multiple guards and cops.
Relatives of Reina Mae begged guards to remove her handcuffs so she could hold her baby one last time but the guards resisted to do so.
This case and that of all the 646 political prisoners throughout the country, who, like many prisoners, are subjected to inhuman conditions in jail, represent a facet of the callous and brutal governance of the Duterte administration -
where the poor and those working on social justice issues are arrested and kept in jail for trumped- up cases or minor offenses, while those perpetrating gross human rights violations are exempted from prosecution and accountability.
