The Attorney General& #39;s Directives requiring the names of officers who receive major discipline have been UPHELD. This is a blow to the police unions--they aren& #39;t as powerful as they think they are and they don& #39;t get to call the shots! 1/4

But, here& #39;s a key line from the opinion: "We note the information the Attorney General has ordered released in Directives 2020-5 and 2020-6 is quite limited, and far less than what some of our neighboring states have done in response to similar concerns." 2/4
The AG did the very bare minimum he could have done to give us transparency and it was done mostly b/c there was a pending Supreme Court case that forced his hand.

We need the Legislature to pass #S2656 and make police internal affairs records public! 3/4
VERY few cops get major discipline, so these directives gives us very, very little. And if agencies don& #39;t comply with the directive, there& #39;s nothing we can do to enforce it!

We need #S2656, so we can review IA files and learn why MOST complaints are not sustained. 4/4
