From watching a bit of this I will say it feels like CTU is skating past the very real harms to young kids, esp those with special needs, and I think this is a tactical error. https://twitter.com/ctulocal1/status/1317076832831696902
Remote learning is a DEVASTATING failure that is causing PROFOUND harm. That doesn’t necessarily mean we’re ready to provide in person school even just to the most vulnerable kids. The reasons why we’re not ready are an indictment of CPS and the city overall.
We know enough about how this virus spreads and about human behavior to know that opening bars was and is an ABSOLUTE DIPSHIT MOVE. We also know enough about risk mitigation to know what we SHOULD be hearing from CPS and its teachers if we were truly prepared.
In CPS I’m sure there’s insufficient PPE, insufficient education around how to use it, insufficient ventilation and filtration and no good faith conversation about what it would take to rectify any of that
One speaker brought up that the half day programs they’re talking about reopening cause many parents to use daycares the other half of the day. Guys, can CPS stop paying people to NOT THINK about basic health and safety and give families money for private therapeutic care?
Like but for real, CPS has had to do this in the past and many kids have been without services since March. That’s a long ass time for early intervention! Did someone make a tally sheet and decide it is actually cheaper to just write a cohort of kids off? Eat that loss?
They can’t create a safe environment for their trained staff to provide these services. If they could, we’d see it. There are kids that NEED services that were promised to families that can’t spend their own way out.
