1. When I was a kid growing up in Australia, my sister and I would stay up late to watch the USA version of & #39;The Today show& #39; with Bryant Gumbel and Jane Pauly. It was so wild and exotic that it was daylight on the other side of the world. To hear the accents and see American..
2. ..culture was like peering into another universe. It was the 80& #39;s, and America seemed so aspirational, wholesome, naive and positive. I fell in love with the idea of living there one day. I first moved to the USA first in 1999 and had 5 incredible years here..
3.. I never wanted to leave but I made an album my US label HATED - & #39;The Tension and the Spark& #39; - but the UK loved it, so my team and band temporarily relocated to London for what was supposed to be 6 months. Then I met my husband to be!..
4. So I said goodbye to San Francisco and spent 7 amazing years in England. We had a wonderful life but I wanted to share the positive, hopeful idea of & #39;America& #39; with my husband. We took a leap of faith, moved back to the USA in 2012. Immediately It was clear something was wrong

7. ..I miss the country I loved so much as a child, and embraced me so much during my formative years - I want it to wake up from this nightmare. America is an ideal, an idea we strive for because when it works, it& #39;s the best of humanity...
8. ..At its worst it& #39;s, well.. the worst of us. That& #39;s what& #39;s so fascinating about the melting pot of this place. It has such a complicated history but it has always reckoned with its past, and always been like a big brother, to me. I have no illusions that it& #39;s nirvana ..
9. .. but America is better than it has been these past 4 years. I can& #39;t wait for it to wake up from this nightmare, this fever dream of chaos. I feel like I& #39;ve spent half my life here, it& #39;s my second home. Maybe one day I& #39;d become a citizen. Right now, I just pray for peace.
