Why I love the monogatari series:
(Ive already done something like this but I want to expand my thoughts more)
(Ive already done something like this but I want to expand my thoughts more)
First of all, I would like to start with the production of the series. Adapted by shaft in 2009, the monogatari series has been one of the most influential series in the industry, Presenting us with a different way to approach story telling visuals in the medium.
The use of flashing texts to include some of the narrator& #39;s side comments was a great way to approach a very dialogue drven series, the flashing texts also prevents a scene to look dull and bland and overall its a creative way to prevent cut content and to add creative visuals.
The color, lighting and shot composition is all beautiful, pause at any frame or at any time and you are guarantted to find a great screenshot material.
The audiovisual direction is amazing, and the voice acting is superb. The one thing I always adore about monogatari& #39;s voice acting is it sounds like the VA& #39;s are all having fun playing their roles.
Now I want to discuss the themes of the series, Using the supernatural element of the story to give more depth and development for a character is one of the best things I have seen, expanding the plot and character depth by using the same element is one of its strong points.
Seeing the story unfold in the narrator& #39;s point of view is a unique experience, We get to see the casts perspective on certain characters and the world, this is present on Nadeko medusa where there are people around, unlike the usual scenes where the surroundings are empty
Another instance of this is we see the characters opinion& #39;s toward certain characters. In Araragi& #39;s perspective we were introduced to nadeko as this cute shy girl, while in Kaiki& #39;s and Nadeko& #39;s perspective we see her as a fragile and highly dependent character who is lost.
Now let me get onto the characters, the way Isin presentsthe characters, their flaws and personality is honeslty masterclass. Using anime tropes/archetypes to give in more depth by subverting your expectations is a unique formula. Hitagi& #39;s introduction as a tsundere shows this.
While having a tsundere like personality, we were shown that she acted like this because of her past, she wanted to push everyone away since she has been fooled many times and began to treat the act of kindness as a hostility, and that was her flaw as a character
Flaws, every character in the series has their own flaws as a character and the way they get resolved from each of their own character arcs is honestly amazing. Seeing them grow up from their flaws in a satisfying conclusion is one of the best things I have experienced.
Another thing I like about the cast is their dynamic, one of the most interesting things in monogatari are the character interactions. Their banters are amusing their monologues are great and they just mix so well together.
Araragi having a flexible personality and being able to create an interesting dynamic with almost all the casts still amazes me to this day
Now lets talk about Isin& #39;s writing style. I genuinely adore and respect his style. Using a Casual conversation to give in more depth and personality to a character has always been one of my favorite things about mono, this is present on Tsubasa tiger.
The overall atmosphere of the series is great, It never takes itself too lightly and never too seriously, theyre in between thats why everything flows so naturally, if they pull out a gag in a middle of a big scene it wont affect the experience since everything flows naturally.
Because of this elements my emotional connection to the series is way too big, its something I relate too, I admire all of the cast, the relatability I have with this series is too big and I will always admire this series. Looking forward for off season and monster season.
