sorry to start discourse but I really disagree with that tweet youre all liking saying "if youre white passing youre white".
like who tf decides if you "pass" or not. for years I didnt take the racism I experienced seriously because I thought I looked white.

and honestly I look a lot whiter now than I did when I was a kid due to various health problems etc-
but like I was horrifically bullied, I found it harder to get employment, I couldn't rely on the police to look after me and my experience was not one of a white person

I honestly think its offensive to undermine the experience of poc's like that. im not sure if im genuinely missing the point somewhere, but to me- once you are anything but white you lose the 'privilege' of being classed as such

maybe I am bias, because I think I pass. I honestly think I look white now. but white people disagree and I am still not treated white.

I have been spat on, set on fire, been beaten up, been called every name under the sun, been refused for interviews and jobs (i actually had to change my NAME to make it sound more white before I started getting interviews for higher profile jobs)

the police didn't look after my family or take it seriously when hate crimes happened, meaning stuff like our windows being smashed and the family car being vandalised was a regular occupancy and a 'normal' part of my childhood

if somebody turned around to me now and said I had the privilege of being white i wouldn't genuinely stare in disbelief. "white passing" poc often actually ARENT "white passing" and have suffered greatly from systemic racism and racial discrimination

im aware this is a personal account and not the same for everybody. but I do wonder how many other people read that tweet you all liked and felt invalidated and like their experiences didnt matter today. I did also clock that the majority of moots who liked it were Caucasian

I just put this in a reply but im going to end this little rant with this:

rating POC by how 'white passing' they look is reductive and offensive and some of you need to take a step back.
