Again, hearing this stuff hurts af.
Because all the women and I mean ALL the women who are protesting and supporting the #ENDSARS movement protested last year for #SayHerNameNigeria.

I protested last year and despite my reservation and how I got groped last night by, https://twitter.com/segunfamisa/status/1316828612922953729
men returning from the Lekki protest, I'm still going out there today to document the stories of women.

In my history as a Nigerian woman, I have never seen a bridge closed or a toll gate rendered inefficient cause a woman was raped or lost her life.
We are disposable like that.
Two months ago, Olamide Omajuwa Alli was beaten and killed in the most gruesome way possible.

She had her braids plucked with pliers and had her body mutilated by her fiance.
A country that cares about women would have called for a total end to life as we know it.
However, what I saw on Twitter was that the very men and influencers who are leading this #ENDSARS movement, created a rumour thay she deserved to die cause of "fake paternity of her kids".

Men who continually make jokes about the patriarchy fc and deem it bants.
"Why didn't we protest".
Or rather: "Why didn't we pull up this crowd on a woman's issue?"

1. Nigeria hates women.
2. GBV is so normalized that advocating for a change on it to men sounds like wishing a green moon so it's not "revolutionary" enuf for the male political jobbers.
3. All men benefit from the silencing of women that occurs when we are sexually harrassed and molested.
Women accepting a meek and inferior position is essential to men's headship.
For every woman driven out of corporate work due to harrassment, a man finds it easier to climb up.
4. We are fighting an issue of which all men are either guilty of or know a man who is guilty of.
In other words, women can't expect fullon support from the very people we are fighting against.

5. Unlike SARS, the main victims were women & again we are nameless in this country.
At the end of this protests,
I expect that and hope that the women doing it(incl. myself) and putting our lives, bodies and mental health on the line,
are not doing it cause we think that if we show Nigerian men just how efficient we are,
we will have some benefits trickle to us?
By now, I expected that whoever drafted the #5for5 which summarizes the demands of the protests,
should have been explicit in mentioning the needs of women and minority groups right there in the document for all to see.
We have separate needs from men.
For those asking why we didn't protest,
here is a thread and documents most if not all of the protests that happened last year. https://twitter.com/asangelwassayin/status/1316831763004641280
Also very important and I have to add.

These women were not raped by SARS officials.
They were raped by members of other units of the Nigerian Police Force.

I know those tagging #EndSARS on the tweets mean well and are doing it to bring publicity to it.
But it's paramount to remember that in the case of these women,
calling for SARS to end would not have done anything in particular for them.

Cause they got raped by other policemen not affiliated to SARS.
We need to #EndMisogyny and #ReformPoliceNG to have complete justice.
