Me too always loved the more realistic direction @DarbyMcDevitt leads the stories in. Bloodlines wasn't a love story, but just how Altair and Maria became not enemies. Black Flag didn't have Edward fighting for Assassins from Sequence 4. Torquemada wasn't a Templar in Discovery. https://twitter.com/D_W_Pearce/status/1316989189737635841
Less experienced or less attuned to human nature would have Altair and Maria kiss and profess their love in the first two hours of Bloodlines, Edward would be 'Assassins 4 Life' for most of the game, and Discovery would fail to show that not only Templars can do horrible stuff.
Revelations Ezio is also my favorite Ezio. Yep, he hurries to kill target that is innocent, uses or harms civilians to achieve his goals (and gets called out on this both by Yusuf and Templars), but you can also see how he is tired and never wanted this life in the first place.
If Revelations would have had more time to iterate than its, what, 7-10 month production cycle? I'm sure all those points would have been more pronounced and more detailed, for a larger amount of people.
