I wanna do monotype runs of the different Pokemon games...
I'm trying to think about types that would be both pretty accessible (for the respective Gen) and that would allow me to use Pokemon that I like but rarely ever/never have used before.
There are 4 rules:
1. Pokemon must be of the chosen type for the run.
2. Can only use Pokemon whose fully evolved form is from the same Gen as the game (Pokemon who get a new evolution later on are fair game as long as their "final" stage in the current game is of the same Gen).
3. The chosen type must be one that allows the player to get at least one proper Pokemon to start the run with before they challenge the first gym.
4. Pokemon that don't match the chosen type can be caught but they can only be used for miscellaneous purposes (HMs, trading, etc.)
And you know, I never thought about it before, but Gen 1 games lend themselves pretty well to Poison-type runs!

Bulbasaur is a Poison-type, so you don't have to sacrifice your starter for the challenge, wild Nidoran are common west of Viridian, there are Weedle and Kakuna in--
--Viridian Forest, I believe you can find Ekans in the route from Pewter to Cerulean, there's Zubat in Mt. Moon (as well as a Moon Stone for your Nido), and there are Oddish/Bellsprout in Route 5 (and I think you can find Venonat there too?).

Admittedly, after that it's mostly--
--Nidorino, Nidorina and Venomoth (and I guess Gastly and Haunter, but how viable are they in Gen 1 with its glitchy Ghost mechanics?) til you get to the later areas, but said later areas contain Grimer and Koffing. I'm pretty confident one can put a really neat Poison-type team.
So dream team is: Venusaur, Nidoqueen, Arbok, Venomoth, Muk and Weezing.

Might also get Beedrill and Golbat early on as placeholders for Muk and Weezing. And I'm going with Nidoqueen instead of Nidoking cuz I already trained a 'king in LGE.

Which version should I play, though?
For Gen 2, I'm thinking of a Water-type run, and I already know it'll be Crystal version. :3

Start out with Totodile, catch a Poliwag north of Cherrygrove, a Wooper south of Violet, and I think(?) I can get a Slowpoke at Slowpoke Well without Surf. In any case, 3-4 Pokemon ought
to be fine for challengkng the first four Johto gyms and you get Surf right after that, as well as I believe one can find the Good Rod in Olivine.

So by my first league challenge, I should hopefully have Feraligatr, Politoed, Quagsire, Slowking and Lanturn. I want the 6th to be-
-Kingdra, but I don't remmber if Horsea can only be found in Kanto. I also hope to find a rom that enables trade evolutions via level-up instead. I don't care if they're set to level 40 and still require the items; I just wanna use Politoed, Slowking and Kingdra!

If not, I'll--
--probably replace them with Mantine, Octillery and Suicune. Cuz if I can't use all of the Pokemon I wanna use, then I'm allowed to be a bit extra with at least one of the replacements, lol.
Moving on to Gen 3, I will likely play Emerald.

I wanted to do a Ground-type run, but there would be very few choices overall and virtually only one choice while befor I beat the 3rd gym... So instead, I'm considering a Grass-type run.

Trecko as my starter, of course, then get-
-a Lotad west of Oldale (and a Seedot if I'm lucky enough to encounter a swarm early on, but it's not a priority), and a Shroomish in Petalburg Woods. That should hold me over until I find a Roselia between Verdanturf and Mauville.

Beating Flannery will pose A Challenge, but I--
--will have access to the desert afterwards, where I can find Cacnea and the Root Fossil to revive Lileep from, and I can catch a Tropius on the way to Fortree.

Final team should be Sceptile, Ludicolo, Breloom, Cacturne, Cradily and... either Roselia or Tropius. Dunno which yet.
I will play Platinum for Gen 4 and I think I will go with Flying-type. I wanted to do Electric, but sadly, there aren't more than 5 fully evolved Gen 4 Electric-types (all Rotom forms count as one 'mon total). I also considered Normal-type, but I'd need to get Aipom from a Honey-
-Tree and that's almost as obnoxious as getting a Munchlax. Plus I'd still be relying on some key Flying-types anyway, so!

I will be swapping my Starter for a Starly ASAP, and try to figure out what to do with the 1st gym... After I get my first badge somehow, I will catch a--
--Drifloon and camp out at the Honeh Trees to try and nab a (hopefully male) Burmy. It will be obnoxious, but should be less so than the Aipom from the Normal run. If I somehow get a female Combee first, I will choose it over the Burmy, I don't care that I've previously trained a
Vespiquen but never a Mothim. Vespiquen is awesome. Once I get my Honey Bug, I will head for Eterna. Sadly, Murkrow is Pearl exclusive, so I won't be able to get one in the Forest, but! After I finish up my business in Eterna, Cynthia will give me a Togepi Egg! Then K catch a--
--Gligar under the Cycling Road! After that, I'll catch a Yanma at the Great Marsh.

Final team would be: Staraptor, Drifblim, Mothim, Togekiss, Gliscor and Yanmega... with a slight possibility of Chatot replacing one of these? IDK. I've used Staraptor and Togekiss in the past--
--and they have the exact same typing as Chatot in Platinum, so they'd be the fair choices to get replaced, but I'm counting on precisely those two to carry the team and Chatot is as cute/fun as it is weak...

Decisions, decisions...
For Gen 5, I will be playing both BW and B2W2 as they have different stories!

For BW, I shall do a Fire-type run!

Tepig will be my Starter and it shall help me get through the first gym easy-peasy. I will go into Pinwheel Forest before facing the second gym and catch a Pansear-
-because Simisear is a good 'mon; fan polls are just mean.

I will get Darumaka at Route 4; yes, I have used it before. No, I don't care. Darumaka is baby ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I then have a wild ride ahead of me because I won't be able to get a Litwick until--
--I reach Mistralton, but it'll be worth it!

Then I'll have to wait til Victory Road to get Heatmor.

And now for the $500 question: who'll be my 6th team member? This is also why I didn't specify which version I'll be playing.

I want to play White version, and if I can find--
--a rom with the Liberty Pass, I'll play White! If the rom has the Pass, that answers the question; Heatmor would be the 6th member since I will have acquired Victini back in Castelia.

However, if I can't find a rom with the Pass, then I'll play Black and Reshiram'll be the 6th.
"Why not Volcarona?" I hear you ask. Well that's because for my plahthrough of B2W2 (I will choose the version that corresponds to the one I play for the Fire run), I will do a Bug-type run!

Will replace my Starter with Sewaddle ASAP, and I will catch a Venipede before the--
--first gym.

I will have to get through at least Virbank, possibly Castelia, with only those two, but! I should be able to get a Dwebble before I head into Nimbasa.

Then, for the good stuff, I will go get Volcarona as soon as I reach Driftveil! Then once I reach Chargestone--
--Cave, I will catch a Joltik.

Aaaand after that I think I have to wait until the post-game to get Durant, lol.

Final team: Leavanny, Scolipede, Crustle, Volcarona, Galvantula and Durant!

It's easily the team I am most excited for! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
For Gen 6, I'll probably play X since I think I'll have to rely on proper copies of the games rather than roms starting with this one, lol.

Honestly... X and Y /might/ be mh least favorite versions in the series. They just left so little of an impression on me; I barely remember
anything about my experience playing it... In fact, this is the first game I've talked about so far for which I need to check what types can I even get besides the starters before the first gym.

It's not that I didn't look up anything while typing up this thread, but whenever I-
-did, it was to check if a Pokemon was version exclusive or if I was remembering how many Pokemon of that type are available in the game correctly.

I legit cannot remember much about X, though...
Alright, after checking very carefully, I can confirm that the only way I can do this challenge in XY is if I'm either willing to play without a full team OR if I am willing to break one of the first 3 rules. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Playing with a full team wasn't a rule, though, so it would
probably make the most sense to dk that rather than break a rule.

What's worse is that the types that let me get the most amount of Pokemon early on without breaking any rules are Fire and Water, which I already chose for previous gens, so that sucks.

Ultimately, I've settled--
--on doing a normal run since K can catch Bunnelby and Litleo before the first gym, and Furfrou and Helioptile before the second gym.

If it gets too hard or obnoxious, tben I'll make an ammendment to rule 2 for this gen only, allowing myself to count Pokemon with Megas as having
new "fully evolved forms" corresponding to the gen and I'll catch a Kangaskhan and an Audino...

If anyone is interested in doing a monotype run of XY without the "Gen 6 'mon only" rule, though, I'd actually recommend doing a Fire-type run, cuz you can actually get 4 Fire-types-
-before the first gym: Fennekin, Fletchinder (gotta evolve that Fletchling, though), Pansear and Litleo.

On top of that, you can get a 5th long before the second gym, since you can pick Charmander at Sycamore's lab almost immediately after getting your first badge. And depending
on how easy it is to find a Fire Stone in this game (can't be bothered to look it up), you may even get your 6th either right before or right after the second gym cuz there's wild Eevee afoot!

I think this was the first time a gen made Fire-types super accessible early on, and--
--despite it being my least favorite set of Pokemon games, I can't not appreciate that.

(B2W2 also had early game Fire-types available, but aside from Tepig and an Eevee you had no Stones for, you needed to at least get to the second gym to find Growlithe and Magby.)
Gen 7 time, baby! Ohh, I think this might???? Be my favorite gen????? Though that could just be the whiplash from moving on from XY, lol.

I will be playing Ultra Sun because the story changes between it and Sun aren't big enough to warrant playing both versions. Plus, my sister-
-has a brand new copy of US that she never got around to playing, so hopefully she'll lend it to me and I won't have to delete my Ultra Moon save file.

This will be a Fairy-type run!

Popplio will be my Starter, though since it doesn't become a Fairy til it's fully evolved, I'll
need to catch a Cutiefly before Ilima's trial.

Those two will have to do for the first Hala's trial as well as Lana's, after which I'll be able to catch a Morelull.

My starter will get me through Kiawe's trial and then I'll rely on the other two for Mallow's trial. I'll then--
--hunt for a Comfey before moving on to Olivia's trial.

At this point I debated if Alolan variants of Kanto Pokemon should count as Gen 7 Pokemon. Unlike the Mega Evolution clause that I proposed if Gen 6 gets too tedious, I don't think this is an ammendment. Most regional--
--variants are different enough from their original variants to justify being treated like different Pokemon. So yeah, Alolan variants count as Gen 7 'mon.

Therefore, my next Pokemon will be Alolan Vulpix... which I don't remember if I can catch before Sophocles' trial or if I--
--have to wait til after, but it won't make a difference cuz I'm sure as heck not gonna use it for that trial.

After Acerola's trial I will catch my 6th member, Mimikyu!

So my team for the league will be: Primaria, Ribombee, Shiinotic, Comfey, Alolan Ninetales and Mimikyu!

I--
--say "for the league" because IDK if I'll wang to slog in the Tapu afterwards... They are very cool and I have never used them... and what about Magearna? Lots to consider.
Finally, we arrive at Gen 8!

And honestly, I think I can choose almost any type and bd safe. But I'll do that after I get some sleep.
