I’m going to go back through my DVR recording of Biden’s town hall and tweet commentary. I’ll note what time on the recording each comment is made. (1/?)
/ I like the honesty of filling the room with people both for and against. At this point in this election it would be disingenuous to fill a room with just “undecideds” b/c anyone undecided at this point has one foot in Trump’s camp and just needs to be told it’s okay. (1:48)
/2:43 Covid question, what does following the science look like in your admin? JB points out how Trump lied about severity, left it to governors, didn’t lead the way. Didn’t ensure aid went to small bus. Abt schools says u must provide guidance AND money to open safely.
/9:24 prev T voter asking about mandatory vaccine. JB: Trump says a lot of
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="💩" title="Dreckshaufen" aria-label="Emoji: Dreckshaufen"> that’s not true. Vaccine not gonna be ready safe approved til Spring 21. Answer to her Q about would v be mandatory is complex and depends on nature of v when it comes out & how it’s being distributed
/ contd: it should be but impossible to make everyone do it, but ways to make it happen such as school requirements, and go to governors, mayors, councils & encourage them to push for it.
/Now reminding us of the value of wearing masks to avoid lockdown. On to next question. (15:03) Trump voter asking about tax cuts. Referred to JB promise that it won’t affect incomes under $400K, asks what is plan for continuing T tax cuts for middle class or cutting more?
/(15:03) JB’s got receipts! This was my fave answer of the night: 1.3 Trillion of the 2 Trillion in Trump tax cuts went to top 0.1%, those are the cuts he means to eliminate. Talks about how corporate tax rate was reduced from 35% to 21% where many D’s & R’s thought it (cont’d)
/should come down to 28%. Raise it back just to 28%, which he describes as a Fair tax, you raise 1,300,000,000,000 just by that one act. If incomes over $400k paid what they did under Bush (45%), you raise another $92 billion. That’s a lot to help everyday Americans.
/16:38 George asks follow up: is raising taxes a good idea when economy is weak? JB points to Moody’s (Wall Street) analysis of his plan says he would create 18.6 million new jobs in 4 years, GDP will grow by $1 trillion more than under T. And 7M more jobs than under T.
/ Sorry to linger so long on this but it was the best moment of the night. Now he’s talking about coalition building, we are democracy and you have to work w/congress to get the votes to support your plans.
/ (25:10) A complex question not easily summarized. How to reassure black voters who see voting as participating in a system that consistently fails them? JB’s answer equally complex and I feel like he was on a good track but didn’t get to complete the thought. This
