Psst no. Extant (modern) wolves aren’t the direct ancestors of domestic dogs. That species of wolf, became extinct in the Pleistocene.

- Wolves and dogs are not the same species.

- Artificial selection has both good and bad examples. A wolf cannot be a seeing-eye dog etc. https://twitter.com/zacthepaleonerd/status/1316895766041034753
Nothing annoys me more than the general sweeping statement; that dogs are basically ‘rubbish wolves’ because of natural V artificial selection...
Whilst the example used here...a horrible/unethical breed called a ‘toad bulldog’ is awful and a cruel example of artificial selection...

Dogs are pretty brilliant. A wolf wouldn’t be able to cope with even a small percentage, of what dogs are asked to do.
Dogs have had to adapt to our ever changing domestic environments. As much as we’ve changed them, they’ve had to work most of it out for themselves.

A wolf would freak out. A wolf does not make a good pet for this reason.
