A man lives three lives. The first one ends with the loss of naivety, the second, with the loss of innocence and the third… with the loss of life itself. A long time ago, the Nigerian youths lost their naivety
#EndsSARS
#EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria
#ASSU
when they realized how much deceit, greed and lack of empathy is portrayed by their government. After realizing these, they went on to be influenced by the pitiable state of the economy, into indulging in several criminal acts such as armed robbery, kidnapping and internet fraud
Thereby loosing their innocence. Although it is inevitable that one goes through all 3 stages, in the past couple of days, the Nigerian youths have said 'No' and have chosen to go on their own terms.
They have shown great resilience and have taken a stand against the injustice and corruption meted on them, by their government. The #EndSars protest has been more of a symbolic movement than a literal one. Even though like the name 'EndSars', we are saying Sars should end,
we are saying more than that. We are sending a message, one that says we would no longer tolerate such callousness from people whom we elected to leads us, protct us and preserve our rights. We are saying we would no longer loose our lives to rogue agents and bad gvrnmnt policies
We're saying we would no longer bite our tongues, when we've got the words to change a nation; we would no longer be stuck in silence, afraid we'll say something wrong. We have chosen to take back power from the hands of those who have misused it over the years.
But we must understand that this is also a wake up call on the conscience of the Nigerian youths. As we have demanded for better, we should strive to do same. We must make a conscious decision to do better by ourselves and our nation,
by quitting such criminal acts that made us vulnerable to the wolves for judgment and subsequent devouring, in the first place. Let us advice one another and support ourselves, just as we have done during these time of protests.
We hope that our message is well received. Honestly, at the end of the day, we might not get to see the dissolution of the so called S.W.A.T, as we cannot entirely rule out the importance of such bodies and the role they play in curbing crime,
but we believe that we would see the end of its excesses and a new approach in their methods. Today we have marched the streets of the nation, in peaceful protests. Tomorrow, we might invade these same streets in retaliation, should things remain unchanged.
