This picture haunts me. Ina Nasino touching her baby's coffin, wearing full PPE and handcuffs, while more than a dozen police officers with guns and riot control gear surround her. Media in a frenzy, police viewing her no more than an inconvenience. Not being able to grieve.
Her grandmother kneeling to beg the police to bring the tiny coffin to the cemetery. The police officer looking at her like how dare she cause a scene. The helplessness in her voice while she shakes. How can anyone not feel a little radical while watching.
They had to beg for the funeral car to slow down because the MPD kept insisting to speed it up. In our country the funeral march is an important part of the grieving process. No matter how far, 1 or 10 km, mourners will walk. That's how important it is.
To have to go through everything Ina Nasino is going through, how dehumanizing it is for her to lose her baby and grieve in front of the whole country while the police parade her around. It should anger you. At the least, it should haunt you. This is the reality in our country.
