You can all talk about climate change & publish millions of papers. But on ground it comes down to Engineering failures.Climate change predictions would help up to planning the capacities only. After that it is about funding & Engineering. Right now no one cares about it in India https://twitter.com/CYBTRAFFIC/status/1316287691877613568
Whole field of hydrology is tilted towards statistical modeling and data science in India. All the do is using different data ensembles&different models. No body cares if we even have basic infra on ground. Just publish, publish, get awards, jobs. Everything grabbed by them.
Just look at the recruitment pattern in IITs. All tilted towards climate change based on this data analysis stuff. Overtime, you will have unidimensional hydrology people who knows nothing beyond it. It is scary&there is no motivation to work in Engineering solutions...
as climate change gives easy paper&ensures good career and have a strong network in India. I would say they have monopolised the field even
Try attending few of their seminars. Everything would feel like a groundhog day. Same thing, but they can publish in big journals. There are no great ideas behind it except using different data sets or different combinations of datasets. What I am talk about is longterm ...
predictions of climate. Not weather predictions. We still lack in weather predictions& need to improve a lot on physical models to predict heavy rainfalls, say a week or two ahead. Even then, you predict it, then what? If your city has no way or plans or engineering infra ...
to respond what is the use of that prediction? It would just be a fancy update on apps at max.
