This is... interesting. I had my campaign @twitter account locked in the midst of in-party elections for posting information about a piece of graphic art, with info about how to assess whether it was new or had ever been hosted on the @joebiden URL in the image (wayback & tineye) https://twitter.com/vijaya/status/1316923549236551680
Clearly @twitter may take into account how security & disinfo researchers, credible media, even other candidates might use content that trips alarms for automated removal, but Trump campaign + White House staff were aware of ban hammers & account locking likely w/ Giuliani “hack”
I still think @Vijaya and @Jack should be more transparent about the “Biden’s Brain” takedowns and the decisions they made, how they were so much more responsive to restore accounts from conservatives like @iheartmindy than Bernie supporters who commented on the graphic.
Any effort to appease people like Rudy Giuliani and @kayleighmcenany trying to circumvent really predictable repercussions for pushing faked, forged or altered hacked e-mails this late in the cycle that’s already been shaped by auto-locked accounts is not brave of @jack & @vijaya
Twitter is a neat way to communicate with journalists snd a handful of official government accounts, but it’s far from a public utility. The malicious Trumpland accounts can twist in the wind for at least as long as I did, and contemplate building a better competitor to @Twitter
I feel something similar to @xchatty in his complaint here about @gmail changing links in email to redirect them through there service: https://twitter.com/xchatty/status/1316710505868861441
I feel the big platforms probably do have to do things like this to protect the average user from malicious state actors like those who backed Trump in the last Presidential cycle, but I miss the internet that used to be comprised of many thousands more small sites & services...
...run by nerds and perverts and having far less of a burden to keep an Open Society from collapsing from the greed and games of foreign mining gaziliionaires.
I’ll end this thread with a gratuitous, humorous, sorta lewd selfie. Check out my “boo bees.” It’s too late to build a better internet tonight. Until we have time to fix the net, don’t boost dumb Trump/Putin links for fame or profit. Putin hates boobies. Don’t be like Putin.
