$FSLY Based on recent guidance miss, I have decided to a fresh set of deep dive on Fastly, especially whether Fastly is able to cross the chasm and have mainstream businesses adopt it OR will they just stay with innovators. This is important for a business to scale. contd.
Sometimes, you can have a great technology, better than any of your competition but if it is complex to set up and more expensive to set up with limited skillset available to hire from the market, then the business will take a lot of time to expand and scale. contd.
Fastly currently has their existing platform using Varnish which is relatively complicated to set up. In ComputeEdge one can use Rust and then Lucet Compiler and plan is to expand to other languages except Javascript. The adoption will happen but may take longer time.
Question is how the management will be executing and able to sell to large enterprises faster than competition and also how efficient they are at dislodging Akamai which is well entrenched in a large set of enterprises and there is certain inertia factor that Fastly has to fight
Overall, probably requires a blogpost to explain all my thoughts, but point is superior technology does not always guarantee scale and fast growth. The one with the best business model and with superior execution wins ultimately.
