If you want to depict yourself as mentally ill, dependent on meds to function, fine.
I did most of my life, but not now. I think the MI identity was easier me & others because:
- I could fall back on it if things in life fell apart
- family escaped responsibility; so did society
The problem with saying it's disorder in way your brain works is that it takes pressure off fixing
-family interactions
-exploring hurtful past
-creating better conditions in communities, for all
-puts too much on psychiatrists, asking them to carry burden to repair broken people
Meds can be an aid for many as they try to better relationships with self & others. But it doesn't mean you have to be diagnosed as mentally ill. Those labels you get from psych professionals last a lifetime.
Oh, and know those meds inside & out before you consent to take them.
