Thread:

As a Los Feliz resident & centrist dem who voted @sarahkatelevy in the primary, I’d like to articulate why it’s important for the center-left to vote for @nithyavraman in the LA Council District 4 election.
To understand my opposition to re-electing @davideryu one must first understand how he got elected. In the 2017 election Ryu was running against the chief of staff of the CD4 office. Consequently, Ryu had to run an “outsider” campaign.
To win that campaign he aligned himself with the most reactionary orgs in CD4: @FixTheCityLA and The Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association. (Thx @streetsforall ) https://mobile.twitter.com/streetsforall/status/1316032298077360129?s=21
Likewise, Richard Close, the head of Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assoc, is an anti-tax, anti-housing reactionary who has teamed w/ the ultra-right wing Howard Jarvis in the past.
No matter how well-meaning Ryu is, once he sold his soul to the reactionaries to get elected, the reactionaries became his base. The biggest problem in LA politics is not the liberal/conservative divide; it’s the reactionary/progressive divide.
To articulate this point further: Mike Bonin is one of our most progressive councilmembers. Yet, when he faced a recall campaign, 58% of the recall donations came from past Republican donors even though the recall was organized by a (reactionary) left-wing “Berniecrat”.
It just takes the defection of a small percentage of the left to block progressive goals and empower reactionaries.
Nithya Raman is running a campaign based on PROGRESSIVE ideas around equity, transportation, & housing - policies that are vital to address housing security, climate change, & improve mobility for all of our diverse communities.
As a left-centrist, I have policy differences with some of her platform, yet I recognize that ALL progressives must ALWAYS team together to defeat the reactionaries in LA. This rule is inviolable. SHE HAS MY ENTHUSIASTIC ENDORSEMENT.
With that said, I do hope Nithya expands the idea of what a progressive housing policy is. According to UC Berkeley, infill housing (apartments) are the #1 policy locally we can implement to reduce GHG emissions in CD4.
I look forward to the progressive movement banding together to defeat Fix the City & SOHA to get Nithya Raman elected. Our kids need a more equitable, prosperous, & sustainable LA. Nithya Raman will work to create that city. https://www.nithyaforthecity.com/
