So in case you don& #39;t know what has going on in the small city of Norco, CA, let me tell you- it hasn& #39;t been fun.
On June 4th, 2020 a Norco resident, Katherine Aleman, emailed our 5 city council members asking for the city to make a statement about racial equality and to release an action plan to ensure that all residents are treated equally by local police.
One council member, Ted Hoffman, emailed back a long "all lives matter" email in which he stated that the disproportionate number of Black citizens within the criminal justice system is the result of a large number of Black single mothers.
In response to this, Katherine Aleman started a petition asking for an apology from city council, and required racial bias training for all city employees.
After this petition and Hoffman& #39;s email were made public on Facebook, a group of Norco college students approached Katherine about planning a peaceful protest here in Norco, which she supported. Which brings us to June 29th, 2020, the day Norco trended #13 on twitter.
On June 29th a group of 20-25 people met at Neil Snipes park, and were harassed and assaulted the entire way to city hall by counter-protesters. At city hall, these counter-protesters sang the National Anthem while protesters read the names of 100 victims of police brutality.
Yall know that story though. So here is what has been happening since.
Katherine Aleman, the one that wrote the email and started the petition, decided to run for City Council after spending weeks searching for a BIPOC candidate to support.

Since announcing, she has been harassed non-stop. People have even posted her address/street name online (including another council member running for office, who, by the way, murdered a man and was fired from being a cop twice, but no one seems to care).
Her campaign signs are constantly torn down, anyone that supports her is called a racist (for wanting racial equality I guess?), and any time she does any sort of campaigning (calling, texting, mailing, etc) she is ridiculed online. People literally straight up make things up.
Someone has said she has a TV ad (not true), another said she is funded by BLM themselves (not true), another said her volunteers were going around taking pictures of properties with Trump signs (not true), and the list goes on an on. Now here is the fun part.
A militia called the Norco Patriots is forming, to try to "protect Norco from any outsiders trying to burn down our town." The women creating the militia, btw, also helped plan the counter protest, and has her own racist history. (Letter in response to a proposed Hindu Temple)
Then a few days ago, Katherine Aleman posted on our infamous Norco Uncensored fb page, trying to tell her side of the story, and recieved over 1,000 horrible, hateful comments.
And now these signs are now appearing in Norco. Apparently, bringing attention to the HUGE issue Norco has always had, is bringing trouble. They would rather live in blissful ignorance while us norconians of color are watching our neighbors hate a woman for trying to fight for us
So here we are, a small city in the middle of the Inland Empire, basically in the midst of a race war, and most of California doesn& #39;t even know we exist.
Wow this is blowing up. If you live in Norco, please vote for Katherine Aleman. It is absolutely important for our future. If you don& #39;t live in Norco, PLEASE consider donating to her campaign.
