Trauma: a thread 🧵

Today something small brought unexpected memories of the difficulties of my recovery from my accident. I know now as I never did (or could) before that this is how trauma works.

Since the accident, it’s been a couple of years of traumas of various sorts. 1/
I always thought I understood trauma because I’d read about it, talked to people who’d experienced it, am generally empathetic, imaginative, etc.

But the things that happen to your body through trauma can not be known through the intellect. Trauma is an embodied experience. 2/
Healing is similar.

Healing is weird, wonderful, and wild.

Anyway, I was thinking about how some leaders and pastors speak about trauma.

And I know that they don’t know of what they speak. 3/
So I stopped and prayed for them today that they would never know.

Not in the only way you really can know, anyway.
