Son, I have been working on issues related to increasing the diversity of the teaching force since before you were in high school. I’ve worked with two Provincial governments, OTF, the federal governments, the OCT, school boards, and immigration agencies.

We worked hard to support racialized teachers & Internationally Educated Teachers as they sought jobs as teachers.

No matter how much support was provided - training, interview skills, resume writing - they were able to be hired as OTs but was where their journey ended.

You know what made a difference? Regulation 274. Many of the racialized & IETs finally saw their dream realized when there was a fair & transparent path to a job. Principals & boards hated it because they couldn’t continue to hire people who looked like them all of the time.

One has to wonder why this was your priority today. Clearly this has been planned for some time. Could it be that you are seeing the same polling results we are and you realize that the public sees the unmitigated disaster of your school reopening plan?

You may be trying to change the channel but the public isn’t stupid. They still know that the school reopening plan is a disaster. Now they know how desperate you are to change the narrative. Be assured that they will remember on Election Day.
