🧵THREAD🧵

By now you’ve heard that @SteveScully’s allegation of being hacked was a lie.

I thought that, surely, there wouldn’t be a need for a thread on this, because no one could have possibly believed his original claim, but...
Nope. We had bad takes.

Starting off, we have the inimitable @joelockhart who thinks you are - I kid you not - “a damn liar” for so much as QUESTIONING Scully’s allegation that he was hacked.
I thought it would only be Joe out on gullible ledge on this one.

Boy was I wrong.

Welcome to threadsville, @seanspicer.
And, go figure, @Scaramucci believed this one, too.
Also in the “I didn’t expect this one today” category is @hughhewitt, who also seemed to buy this one hook, line and sinker.
Needless to say @cspan has some egg on their face after all of this.
What are we doing here, @Acosta
Interesting time to be vouching for Scully here @costareports.
This one didn’t age well, @Neda_Semnani.
Of course, the reason that people like Scully pull defenses like this is that they’ll be able to get media reporters to report their bogus defense.

Here we have @thedailybeast, @USATODAY, @NBCNews and @AP.
For @Politico, the real story is that ”Trump attacks” over the allegation.
And the silence defense also helps. @brianstelter has a show that talks about the media and what they’re doing. Somehow, the original Scully defense didn’t make it into the program. (H/t @JosephWulfsohn)
For those who were defending Scully against allegations of political impropriety before Tweetgate, I tried to go easy and assume they were in good faith.

But some were just too egregious, like @FrankLuntz. “100% honest” didn’t quite hold up.
But even better may‘ve been the responses to his tweet.

Here we’ve also got @jimsciutto and @JaredHuffman doubling down on it.
In retrospect, this one doesn’t seem “beyond ridiculous!” to me, @LarrySabato.
Nor does it seem right that being concerned would qualify as a “conspiracy theory” @julianzelizer.
I would contend that perhaps Steve Scully is not the “calmest, most decent and least partisan person in Washington, DC” there @GlennKesslerWP.
Same with the “one of the very best” suggestion from @ktumulty.
I’m...not sure that this one aged perfectly, @joshtpm
This is one of the rare occasions where something is so painfully obvious that all you have to do is wait for it to blow up.

My (unsolicited) advice to the bluechecks: when something looks like bullshit, sounds like bullshit, and smells like bullshit, it might just be bullshit.
