I attended an @afro_resistance panel on state violence on Black women &girls. Panelists were Black women from Honduras, Brazil & the U.S. All sharing their ongoing experiences w state violence. Their children & community targeted. Killed & hunted by the state. Human rights denied
Yet here are the trágicas still stuck on “but I’m a mixed Latina, what about us?” We (Black ppl) are talking about BEING KILLED IN THE STREETS BC OF ANTIBLACK TERRORISM. A few of us were sobbing. Bc this shit isn’t a topic point. It’s not a cute “panel theme.” THIS IS OUR LIVES.
Unless you talking abt funding these orgs doing work on the ground, getting involved in holding state actors accountable, denouncing perpetual violence & actively speaking out & spreading the word about this daily anti-black terrorism, all your follow-up questions will be ignored
We (actual Black ppl) already live shorter life-spans than nonBlack Latin Americans. Y’all not gon shave any more of my life force with your assclown “questions” that I literally have countless tweets, videos, and info over a decade bc you can’t confront the lies you swallowed.
I will always make time & space for my peoples though and those acting in good faith. I’ve chatted w perfect strangers, students, researchers, folks in these twitter skreets, those who approach me in good faith. That’s relationship & community-building I seek to continue.
That panel today really drove that last nail down for me. No more wasted time and energy. All will be invested in my, our liberation. We created our classes and workshops for a reason. Aside from that, we have tons of work we BEEN doing freely available online.
As I am listening to this Black Brazilian mother talk about the cops killing her child. Then another person said “theres no goodbye between a mother and a child. It’s see you later.” I. LOST. IT. @jwpanama saying “all of this violence is by the state. They don’t care about us.”
Yesterday I ran into the pharmacy for 2 minutes to specifically buy rose water and run out, and was followed and surveyed and accused of opening a bottle of rosewater. I’m like when did I open it ma’am? She didn’t say anything. 5 minutes of aggression to do a “simple” task.
Just one example of the 829929291919999191 daily aggression & terrorism Negras have to contend with. It is never not violent. There’s levels to it. It’s daily assault. My alleged “social status” didn’t shield me from any of it. I was a negra in leggings & an Afro. “A problem.”
I have the privilege of avoiding a lot of those interactions. I can afford to buy my products in bulk to cut down on interactions in public spaces. I can afford to take taxis. I can afford to get things delivered. This ain’t the case for the average Black woman in Latin America.
And this is wtf we are talking about when we talk about race and Blackness in the region. Y’all tombout “new products for rizos” while Negras are getting assaulted & taunted on the streets & kicked out of school and jobs for wearing their natural hair. Please sit this one tf out.
I literally had to throat-chop a white Colombian man who was three times my size bc he reached out & grabbed my afro on the public bus in Cartagena. He was so stunned he just scampered off. That could have went VERY bad for me. Bc of course I would always be the one “at fault.”
