What both achieved is to make their signatories come across as cartoon villains to those who disagree. We all lost in the process but the biggest casualty may be the notion that there are such things as a 'common good' and 'factual truth' beyond empty slogans and tribalisms.

We all have agendas, something idealistic people should have. Though, if the objective were to help society, those should be pushed with integrity, rigour and an acceptance that those who disagree with us on complex questions are not necessarily evil, stupid or corrupt.
