1/ We need to start "selling" the vaccine to the public. They need to know this will not be a panacea or a magic bullet. They will still have to mask and take precautions after receiving it and they don't go right back to a normal life.
WHEN it "ends", it's with a whimper.
2/ I'm sure many of you, maybe late at night, think "how DO we get out of this"? Vaccines will be a huge help as will mABs and other therapies, but they don't STOP the pandemic. They will not bring back "normal" and maybe normal is simply gone. A double dose vaccine where folks
3/ don't see an immediate personal benefit will be tough to roll out. COVID-19 is here to stay. It will eventually become endemic and easier to control, but it is now a part of our lives. At this point we also have no idea of the mental health toll the pandemic has taken
4/ and will take. That has to be dealt with as will the educational costs this has had on our children.
As we get closer to approved vaccines and treatments, in many ways it will make things more difficult. We will have to deal with all the economic and mental health fallout
6/ that have been ignored while we have focused so strongly on vaccines and treatments. Those human costs, I fear, will be very high.
So how DO we get out of this? Slowly and with world-wide co-operation and co-ordination like has never been seen before.
7/ BUT, if that question keeps you awake at night: you are not alone.
