I encourage every Catholic reading this to consider humbly asking their priest to give thought to making this issue the topic of a homily. I have never heard one despite overwhelming numbers of churchgoers struggling with this issue.
I would also like to ask for humility with respect to sexually explicit scenes in movies. If that’s a near occasion of sin for you then stay away. At the same time, human sexuality is and always has been the subject and/or a component of some of the most beautiful works of art.
I humbly yet sternly ask that you do not condemn artists who participate in this content. If you feel like content you are exposed to crosses the line (and there most certainly is one), say a prayer for them.
I also cannot speak highly enough of the efficacy of 12 step programs. We need accountability if we are fighting this battle and 12 step groups are a brilliant solution for the scourge of porn regardless of one’s religious beliefs.
