A little story for #cryptotwitter It’s not all gold that glitters.

1) I joined #Twitter in 2009, mostly for news concerning the economic crisis and to be free from spun MSM news. I was young, alone, inexperienced, a little shy but saw huge value in taking in the news as
2) I like it, from the people I feel mostly connected with. Likeminded and unbiased.

It was during the period that followed I got interested in decentralizing finance, reducing the power of banks and governments and give people like myself a small possibility to live a dream
3) free from anyone telling me to do, how to save valuable assets and how to properly invest them for later. So I set up a rig to mine $BTC. Built from some old hardware my dad had around. It helped I ran a #warez site during that time too, so was familiar with programming
4) hacking and clocking my gear. It didn’t take long for me to mine over 200 Bitcoin in a relatively short period of time. Awesome.

During that time, I decided I needed a secure place for them so I made an account at the now famous #MtGox to stash my digital valuables safely
5) I recall having about 3600 BTC at the time, actually stashed away so I could possibly be able to buy a car or something if the price would EVER get to 30$ We all know what happened after.

I decided to lay low with my newfound riches and could actually not believe I now had
6) over $3.8 million in digital assets (price was approximately 1200$ on Gox). I didn’t dare nor want to touch the funds, as I believed it showed the potential for adoption and potentially the price could rise even further. That’s when the nightmare begun..
7) the oldtimers ( @Crypto_Bitlord @CryptoBull @CryptoCobain and @rogerkver) will vividly recall the biggest digiheist that ever took place. The MtGox hack/dDos whatever.

That moment I received a notification in my email from bitcoinnews, I was sound asleep. In the morning i
8) woke up, got some coffee and made ready to get to school. Then my world collapsed. I found out I couldn’t reach my funds and learned about the possible heist of over 400million worth in assets.

Among these millions were my digital millions too. Gone, vanished.
9) I was happy I didn’t tell ANYONE about what I held in digital currency, no one would be interested either so... It saved me from having to explain to everyone around me I lost over 4 MILLION $ worth of digital currency.
10) In the years that followed I’ve made some trades which were nice and calls that made me RICH, but I could NEVER get back to the riches I had before. Therefore anything else was pocket change.

The pain got even worse during the run in 2017. I started to do daily calculations
11) multiplying my BTC amount with the current price. I even downloaded blockfolio and put in that amount, just to torment myself on what I had lost and could have had. At one point the value surpassed $65 million. I’m 100% sure I would have held for all these years
12) so I’m quite certain I’d be a multimillionaire by now.

Back to current time. I had gathered, over the past 6 years or so, around 17000 ETH from many different ICO’s and from being ambassador to certain projects. It didn’t come anywhere near what I could have had but
13) it was okay for me back then. It made me forget what I had lost earlier. One of my real life friends, who got hooked to crypto as well, got hired for a certain ICO (not naming names here) and got me involved at a very early stage. I decided to invest about 7500 ETH into
14) Their project, as I could really see them becoming massively successful with their road map, team setup and credentials. I recall vividly sending my ETH to their wallet also my invested money could go and do wonders for them.

Fast forward 4 months: ICO was getting ready
15) To be launched and we were all psyched about the momentum we had amassed. True buzz right there!

We didn’t even make it to the ICO, lead dev team was gone in the week before the phase 1, my investment gone, my friendships gone and my time gone. To make matters worse
16) I had to explain the mother of my kids I lost so much cash. But that I still had safely stored on my #Trezor
Stashed in our safe in the bedroom.
...

When i explained what the Trezor actually was, her face started to become a funny reddish color. My life took a downfall
17) Once more. My girlfriend had thrown away the Trezor one, thinking it was they key to our recently sold BMW and we forgot to give that to the new owner. Can’t blame her, they were quite similar.

Anyhow: I lost another 9500 ETH, at the time valued at around $3.5 million.
18) if you made it this far into my story, you’d understand I’ve searched for days and days on the junkyard desperately trying to find the Trezor, but to no avail. Also lost forever I’m afraid, it literally broke me. What’s the spell #crypto had put on me?
19) Right now I’m holding no crypto anymore, I just don’t dare to get back in. It hurt me so much. My girlfriend doesn’t even know from my Bitcoin I had lost before I met her. The shame was too big.

I’ve set up my own company in the past year, but struggling extremely hard to
20) cope with all regulations put upon us by our governments. I feel the world has something against me sometimes... can’t wrap my head around it. These are the moments I can cry thinking about what I could’ve had, financially speaking.

I must say it hurts every day to read
21) from my former crypto comrades, how they are killing it right now. Good for you guys. Keep doing what you guys do, you’re keeping crypto alive! ❤️

Be safe.
