Whenever we hear the word "addiction" we tend to think of physical addictions like crack and caffeine.

Not everyone is vulnerable to these physical addictions but EVERYONE is vulnerable to the 7 addictions I'm about to reveal.

Think of these addictions as mental states

👇
At any moment in time, you and I are vulnerable to one or more of these addictions whether we're conscious of it or not.

You can never gain 100% control of these addictions as they are deeply rooted, but your life will improve just be being aware of them.

Let's get started

👇
Hidden addiction # 1 People need to feel needed

Everyone needs to feel a sense that their life matters and the best way to feel this is validation from other people.

"I had been fed adoration, the food of the gods" - A former cult member
Hidden addiction # 2 When aware of an impasse, people will do anything to gain a sense of hope

Humans can tolerate a lot but they can't tolerate a lack of hope (that's how people commit suicide)

If you can create a sense of hope in the face of hopelessness...

👇
you'll command attention.

If you can deliver on your promises, you'll command loyalty.

A good way to see this in action is to study political campaigns (just don't sucked in while you're doing it!)
Hidden addiction # 3 People need a scapegoat

Harsh truth: Millions of innocent people have been targeted for no other reason than the fact that doing so made certain others feel better about themselves.

Scapegoating is the basis of witch hunts in the past.
Hidden addiction # 4 People need to be noticed and feel understood

Want to build an audience?

Create a sense that your audience is understood by echoing their thoughts back to them.

This is why giving someone your full and complete attention is the best...
compliment you can ever give them.

This addiction is so powerful that the opportunity to meet this need can override the greatest intellect on earth and lead one to engage in behavior that may, in retrospect, seem bizarre.

Hidden addiction # 5 People need to know things others don’t know/things they aren’t supposed to know

The best way to disarm a skeptic is to share with them "secret" or make a confession.

Whether it be a guru, a magician, a cult leader or...
a parent, the person who promises secret knowledge fulfills a very basic need.

Fun experiment:

Want to gain the trust of a new co-worker? Just share with them a little secret about the workplace or your boss etc.

Moving on....👇
Hidden addiction # 6 People need to be right

We hate chaos and uncertainty and being right represents order and stability

This is not a childish addiction but rather a misguided, automatic and instinctual drive to survive a perceived threat to the psychic order

👇
This is why getting into political arguments is a complete and total waste of time. The best approach is to just smile and nod.

By agreeing with the other person, you are gifting them the satisfaction of having "solved the mystery."
Hidden addiction # 7: People need to feel a sense of power

Whether it's real or not, people need to feel that they are in the driver's seat.

This is why a parent “putting her foot down” never works on rebellious teenagers. It threatens their sense of power.
