it’s still adhd awareness month! so here’s some things not to say about adhd neurotypicals take notes
1. “adhd is a superpower!” mf i will shove my foot up your ass. sure, hyper focus can be useful. but it also makes us neglect basic self care. plus, it doesn’t get rid of executive dysfunction, rsd, and everything else we struggle with. don’t romantacise adhd
2. “adhd is so cute!” you are the WORST kind of person, don’t fetishise adhd. it’s a developmental condition. we’re neurodivergant, not pets. it ruins people’s lives
3. “adhd isn’t that bad/it’s not a bad thing” again, adhd ruins lives. sure, some people don’t experience it seriously. but try having sensory issues in a crowd, or experiencing rejection sensitivity dysphoria. or having anxiety and depression as a result of lack of treatment+
being bullied bc of adhd traits, losing your academic potential due to executive dysfunction and struggling to keep relationships due to emotional impermanence. not so easy now, is it?
4. “only boys have adhd!” no ❤️ afab folk are less likely to be diagnosed bc the research for adhd being male-centric and stereotypes, but we are just as likely to have it.
5. “oh my ____ has adhd, i can say the r slur!” im not saying i’d egg your house if you think this but that’s exactly what i’m saying. only nd people can reclaim the r slur, stop trying to feel special
