In addition, taxpayers have spent more than $400,000 on attorneys hired by Republicans to fight parts of Democratic @GovEvers COVID-19 response plan.

Over the last 2 years, GOP lawmakers have spent more than $5 million on private attorneys at taxpayer expense. The largest part of that — $2.1 million — went toward defending lame-duck laws limiting @GovEvers powers, bills released under the state's public records law show.

"It would be easier and less expensive if the Evers administration worked with the Legislature and followed state law," @SpeakerVos spokeswoman Kit Beyer said.
