Short personal thread: thank you to the many friends who have sent tweets and DMs of support over the stalking targeted at me in the last couple of days. Special thanks to those who set up a meeting with an anti-stalking advocate and organization later today

2/ for those who do not know, a persistent stalker called Chris Nethery sent me several hundred tweets and retweets over a two day period, featuring quite spectacular misogyny, even for Twitter. He accused me of being a prostitute, and retweeted graphic sexual insults.

3/ In addition, he repeatedly pumped out fantastical accusations that I had undergone court-ordered rehab, lost custody of children I did not have, and spent millions of dollars snorting cocaine. This man has already had three accounts permanently suspended for stalking.

4/ Worse even than the repellent sexism and misogyny was his escalation into stalking my female followers. One of them, whom I shall not name, was equally bombarded by Nethery and an accomplice, to the point where they were tweeting out pattern-of-life analyses on *her* followers

5/ This got to the point where graphs of the timed tweet activity of my followers’ followers were being pumped out - all women. While Nethery’s lunatic accusations sometimes were amusing (I have never set foot in Brooklyn), the escalation against women in my orbit was not.

6/6 Twitter does its best against persistent stalkers. There is no point suing somebody who is penniless, and harassment laws vary by state. That’s why I am grateful for the professional advocates for victims I’ve been put in touch with. Thanks for being there. :)
