I did poll worker training yesterday expecting it to be this easy thing & um...it was actually pretty hard, there are a ton of things to remember & they do ALOT to ensure your votes are counted & safe. i have so much more respect for those who work our polls before it was "cool"

Also the training was taught by this no nonsense older black woman and she was so funny the 4 hour class would have been so dry if she wasn't teaching. When people say black women will are the backbone of this country they neglect to say that many of these behind the scenes

Jobs that are crucial to our democracy are being done by black women with not nearly enough pay not acknowledgment

I thought the class was just gonna be like "this is how you turn on an ipad" type shit but its like "you work 5am-9pm make sure you are prepared for every single scenario make sure you know how to tally up.things properly and when to submit affadavits and court ordered ballots"

Also as i have aged i have gained so much respect for mature folks, my class was alot of young recently politically active"newbies" and we could barely keep up with these old people because they have so much experience with this stuff already

Highlight of the class was when this white hipster girl was like "can you repeat what you said?" And the teacher was like "can you open your ears"

Another highlight of class was this woman who was at my table at training, another no nonsense black middle age black woman. A veteran poll worker taught me how to unlatch the special locked box for the ipads with acrylics "you gotta do it with the SIDE of your thumbs girl"

During break she was giving us pointers while smoking a cigarette "Now special elections that's where the BIG bucks are at"

Later in class she was called out by the teacher for playing candy crush on her phone lmao
