Let me put on my "Big Ag lackey" for a few minutes.

A whole bunch of environmental/social justice/organic/community food groups -- 222 -- all got together to oppose the Growing Climate Solutions Act. led by @foe_us @foodandwater
Emissions will go unchecked, they said, 1/8
and the Growing Climate Solutions Act (S 3894/HR 7393) "will undermine efforts to build a healthy, sustainable, and resilient food system."
@foe_us @foodandwater et al explained.
Carbon markets fail to solve the Climate Crisis and Harm Vulnerable Communities, they said. 2/8
I still got my "Big Ag lackey" hat on here.
So environmental groups and others outright reject a bill that could:
-Expand no-till farming practices to reduce soil erosion
-Expand cover crops/double crop production that could build organic matter in the soil
3/8
where was I?
Oh yeah, Enviros against climate solutions --
-increase crop residue, composting
-protect millions of acres of land to meet growing food, fiber, renewable energy needs
-Increase nutrient density (we'd all like more science on this) with healthier soils
4/8
Keeping the lackey hat on
-Pay farmers a price for carbon sequestration, ie, a market for agricultural environmental services.
-Oh, reduce fertilizer and chemical inputs

Yeah, but apparently corporations could benefit, run pretty ad campaigns, make people feel good ...
5/8
So, so, so ...

Rather than fix problems with the Growing Climate Solutions Act (S 3894/HR 7393) And the bill does have problems that should be fixed.
@foe_us and @foodandwater et al say the bill should be flat-out reject. Throw it out.

Questions ...
Why not call for improving the Growing Climate Solutions Act (S 3894/HR 7393)?
-Tighten certification standards and rules for instance.
-Demand more programming and funding for the Conservation Stewardship Program
7/8
But no, you have to throw out the prospect of:
-Healthier long-term soils
-Cleaner water
-Some carbon sequestration
-Agricultural focus on reducing emissions
Because moving the needle forward just isn't good enough.

And that is why they freaking fail.
