I just realized the way to fill my desire to research is to plan a historical novel. I can go crazy getting all the details

I& #39;m hypothetically writing a novel set in late 40s/early 50s Halifax, Nova Scotia

I& #39;m finding resources on Canada and specifically Halifax & the Maritimes
BUT if anyone has any favorite books on US or North American culture during that time, that would be helpful too.

Even some small cultural aspect that offers a glimpse into mindset and experiences.
Oh! Anything regarding the state of higher education in the early to mid 20th century would be awesome. My character& #39;s spouse is probably going to be an English, History, or Classics prof.
I am including some reading on Black experience in Nova Scotia as I figure that really needs to be specific to the area. I& #39;m not sure how much it will affect the plot, but I& #39;m trying to make sure I& #39;m aware.
Novel is extremely hypothetical honestly, but the research will make me happy.
