I just realized the way to fill my desire to research is to plan a historical novel. I can go crazy getting all the details

I'm hypothetically writing a novel set in late 40s/early 50s Halifax, Nova Scotia

I'm finding resources on Canada and specifically Halifax & the Maritimes
BUT if anyone has any favorite books on US or North American culture during that time, that would be helpful too.

Even some small cultural aspect that offers a glimpse into mindset and experiences.
Oh! Anything regarding the state of higher education in the early to mid 20th century would be awesome. My character's spouse is probably going to be an English, History, or Classics prof.
I am including some reading on Black experience in Nova Scotia as I figure that really needs to be specific to the area. I'm not sure how much it will affect the plot, but I'm trying to make sure I'm aware.
Novel is extremely hypothetical honestly, but the research will make me happy.
