There's been a lot of discussion and debate about "originalism" lately. Here are a few thoughts. 1/x
Most importantly, the problem with originalism as conservatives too often practice it is not that it looks to the original meaning of the Constitution, it's that it neglects to consider the meaning of the WHOLE Constitution. 2/x
Remember: Our Constitution today is not the document that was ratified in 1789. Our Constitution today is the document that has been repeatedly amended over time to become more inclusive, more egalitarian, and more democratic. 3/x
If you're an originalist & you're not grappling with how those amendments have fundamentally reshaped the Constitution & its meaning, then you're not doing it right. 4/x
Our amended Constitution protects reproductive rights, marriage equality, and many other progressive outcomes, as my organization @MyConstitution has repeatedly demonstrated in briefs we've filed in #SCOTUS. Learn more here: https://www.theusconstitution.org/  5/x
