Butuan City, the first municipality I’ve ever landed in the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Upon arriving at the airport, “Madayaw na pagkani” “Maayong pag anhi” bisayan phrases will catch your attention which means, “A warm welcome visitors”.
It was a gloomy rainy afternoon when I get there that will made you miss your bed. Even so, the streets are still busy, malls are crowded and overall, you’ll feel the enthusiastic vibe of the city.
Butuan City, is a 1st class highly urbanized city ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cities_of_the_Philippines) and regional center of Caraga ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caraga ), Philippines ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippines). It is located at the northeastern part of the Agusan Valley.
Hosting one of the busiest airports in the Philippines, the Bancasi Airport. (Wikipedia) Being said, the City acts as a gateway for the paradise of Northern Mindanao Island, Philippines. However, it is more than just a gateway as this place has fascinating history.
Not known to all but there’s a local sayings that “There was no Philippines until there was BUTUAN”. Intriguing isn’t it? So what’s the place can offer? Where to go? Here’s some of the spot I’ve been to in the area.
