[Thread] India is performing worse than Bangladesh?
1/ a part of recent IMF report is being quoted to show that India's per capita GDP is less than even Bangladesh. here are some facts from the same report.
2/ this is an estimate from the IMF for March 2021, where India's per capita GDP is expected to plunge to $1,877 and Bangladesh's will rise to $1,888

this has been shared widely.
3/ however, what is not being shared is that: same report predicts that in 2021, India's growth rate will bounce back to 8.8% and surpass that of China (8.2%). India will regain the title of fastest growing emerging economy!
4/ what is not being shared is that: in 2021, Bangladesh GDP is predicted to grow by 4.4% in the same report.
5/ what is not being shared is that: India's population is 8x as compared to Bangladesh, however, as per IMF estimates, India's purchasing power parity in 2020 was $6,283 as compared to Bangladesh's $5,139
6/ what is not being shared is that: India's GDP per capita has increased from INR 65K (2008-09) to INR 1 Lakh (2019-20).
