I am so sick of the Western Music Industry's exploitation of artists that aren't white and how they utilize them as their token artists of color without being respectful to the artist, their message, their music, or their fans.
It is manipulative and gives a false idea of what representation in the industry actually means. It is a toxic mentality that is then accepted by the rest of society. Representation in music is not just one artist or one category where people of color see themselves
It is the true inclusion of multiple artists and to view them as equal to any other musician. It is the visibility of people of color in everything behind the scenes such as producers, composers, lyricist, mixers, choreographers and so much more that aids and lifts one artist
Although this thread originally started because of the disgusting way BTS was treated at the BBMA's tonight, it also encompasses groups such as GOT7, NCT127, SUPERM, EXO ect. that are treated as token kpop stars but never truly receive the recognition or coverage they deserve
Some of the questions they are asked during interviews are honestly completely infuriating due to the lack of respect they are shown and the degrading of their artistry because they are attractive
