It's my birthday today, and while I'm not doing any drawing challenges this year, in the past I've typically drawn my old OCs Snake and Sue for my birthday, & I thought it would be nice to draw them again and explain who they are for new folks
8 years ago I had a Pkmn Black Nuzlocke comic (it's still online, but I'm not gonna link to it lol). I was trying to draw all the Plasma goons with unique designs, & at some point for this part I thought it would be fun to tap into the classic 'bumbling incompetent goon' trope
From a 2014 Tumblr post: 'They were meant to be 1-shots, but a commenter said they hoped to see more of their Jessie/James dynamic, so I thought how they could appear in the Nuzlocke, then BW2 came out & I thought how the duo would fit there, then it all spiraled downwards'
While I eventually abandoned that Nuzlocke comic, I did go on to write a few comics featuring the backstory for these 2. The basic gist is they felt they had no future save for working for the baddies, but they suck at their job whoops
I only managed to get up to their time with the Hoenn evil team (Magma/Aqua). I did start scripting out their next saga with Team Galactic, but I was really struggling with figuring out the page length, how much time to invest in it, etc
Regardless of their limbo status, I'm still very fond of them. They both have incredibly low self esteem & don't think highly of themselves, but they've found comfort in their friendship with one another. They're not always the most emotionally healthy, but they love each other
Snake/Sue started as Pokemon OCs, but if I come across a game that seems like it would allow room for bumbling incompetent goons, then I tend to find myself thinking how Snake/Sue would fit into that particular universe
Anyway, this entire thread kinda turned into a whole 'history of these two', but I never actually got into their individual personalities....I'll go more in-depth some day, but basic gist: Snake is the overconfident braggart, Sue is quiet & sometimes accidentally competent
