didn't think I'd have to write THIS ONE out but, uh: maybe don't show up to art streams to backseat how people do their art 😅
now some of you may be thinking: 'so you don't want constructive criticism? we're just trying to help!' and, well... https://twitter.com/MerQueenJude/status/1316185273953406976
I've been enjoying painting on stream, but WHEW some of the etiquette is exhausting!

- I am doing commissioned work. That will likely be the essence of ALL of my art streams. What this means is that unless I say so, it's not an open forum to pitch color ideas/thoughts.
The only person who gets to do such is the person who COMMISSIONED ME. So don't get salty when you say 'oooh , make that teal!' and I respond back 'the creator wants it in beige.'

That's not me 'shooting down your creativity'-that is literally my client's request.
even if 500 people in chat say 'but it'll look better teal'-doesn't matter, the person who commissioned and paid me wants it beige.

So it's beige.
My job is to fulfill their request. Periodt.
'so we should try to convince them--' no, you shouldn't.

if they want it beige, it's beige. If they see that later and go 'oh, wow, I don't like that, let's make it [different color]', that's when the color will change off beige. Not when chat bullies us into changing it. 🙂
- I have been doing art since I was 7. It will be very loud and clear if I need help/advice/guidance on how to depict something.

Tonight I was asked if I wanted a suggestion on the proportions of my piece. My guess is it looked off to them.
"Vanessa, that's unfair; they didn't know you were basing it off a model (that happened to be me)..."

No, but they sure as shit immediately assumed I didn't see if something was 'too big' or 'too small.' Not to mention they backhandedly just said my own body doesn't look right.
I was actually really pleased with how the pose came out on all fronts and then that comment was made.

So thank you for insulting my body and also implying that body types should be one, uniform, "appealing" shape. Which you know....isn't true.
That literally put me in a mood that I now had to hide for the remainder of the stream. Because 'is it OK if I offer you some advice?'

When literally: https://twitter.com/MerQueenJude/status/1316185273953406976
I also want to point out that there was no 'polite' way for me to handle that past what I did, which was say 'it depends' then say 'oh, this is based off of an actual person 😅'

Which was then met with them being silent the rest of stream. 😒
Again: if it isn't made clear that I want advice, or tips, or guidance, what have you, even if you ask very politely or you meant well-this shit is rude!

And it tells me 'oh, there are people here who just want to 'fix' my art' rather than enjoy the creativity.
If a creative is doing a commissioned piece, do not come in and offer suggestions unless you are the client. Asking 'what color are you making this' is 100% fine; suggesting I make it the color YOU WANT when you aren't the client is not.
Also do not come in and assume the skill level of who you are watching. Even the most well-meaning commentary can be rude, hurtful, or frankly just not helpful.
Y'all wouldn't walk into Fiona Staple's channel and tell her 'hmm, can I offer you a friendly suggestion about the facial features of this black character, artist to artist? 😃'
I don't like having to have made this thread, but literally 3 weeks have lead to some really bizarre behaviors.

'make the shawl this color!'
'can I give you some proportion tips?'
'nice work! here's the brushes *I* use!'
'ooooh, this would be a GREAT aesthetic if--'
Y'all also wouldn't walk into a creator's chat whose doing work for say, Marvel, WotC, or DC, and go 'ooh, yea, dope Miles pic.....but what if he had TWISTS instead of a fade? Plus his hands are kind of big...'

So don't do it in my stream. 😔
The last 3 art streams have been slightly taxing because people are just outright disrespecting my client's wishes, or finding really bizarre angles to try and 'fix' my pieces to their liking, and it isn't OK. Trust me, you will know if it's open forum!
No like seriously: it'll probably be in the title, in a timer, in the Discord, all over the place. 100% you will know if this is something I am wanting feedback on or an extra pair of eyes! You will use more energy trying to NOT know! https://twitter.com/AnnriQueen/status/1316626376607371264
